Easily offended Kataangers may want to go elsewhere.
The Avatar finale was amazing. Phenomenal. The soundtrack was gorgeous, the pallet amazing, the movement truly superb. The battles were all breathtaking, and kept us at the edge of our seat
us being me and .
We really didn't know, at any moment, if a character would meet their doom. Can we say Azula fight/airship battle/ FIRELORD!? zomg.
All the same, the epilogue left me feeling like the end of Harry Potter: DH. It just didn't seem right. And so, in my arrogance and need to express my inner disdain, I give you this.
Zuko/Mai/Katara/Aang/Bumi and all the amazing work done in Avatar belongs to Nickelodeon's Mike and Bryan

Yes, that relationship was forced. I was betting on a "Zuko + Katara with Aang as brother/friend" thing, but obviously Zukatara only existed to (supposedly) highlight the Twoo Luv that Katara and Aang shared.
Kataang or Zutaran arguments aside, I always though that Mai and Zuko had about the most plausible relationship in the series. Despite the George Lucas-quality romantic dialog, and the fact that most of their relationship seemed to happen off camera (what else happened when they were kids? How did they hook up between seasons 2 &3?) the fact is they come from similar backgrounds, had similar issues and actually liked one another.
I think all of that is debatable, short of the demographic plausibility. It was doubtless convenient that the firelord end up with a woman of royal blood.
However, from a writer's point of view Mai represented what was, to me, the 'honorable life' Zuko left behind when he joined the Avatar. While he tolerated the relationship, he certainly didn't seem happy in it.
After all, the best line between them was "I don't hate you" "I don't hate you either."
Mutual apathy does not love make. In fact, I know several people who would argue hatred is closer to love then apathy.
I agree entirely. Aang strikes me as the man "who walks alone". While I'm not surprised he failed to meet a tragic end, I was disappointed that he had his cake and ate it too.
