Well, now I officially know why artists forego living normal lives.
This is the fifteenth strip, and
suggested I try my hand at a sunday strip.
Two days of work later, I give you this.
It certainly is a different beast, the sunday strip. I have much more space to stretch out, and take my time developing moments. The challenge of course is finding an idea that DESERVES all that space. For instance, I could have taken the second row alone and made a four panel of that and called it good. Or the last two rows. Or maybe even the last panel alone. But I digress.
The magnitude of panels to draft and finalize made me push how fast I can work with tone. It's easy to overwork a piece, so I'm shooting to become more relaxed with it.
The part I enjoyed working out most in this were the gestures. Blondie in that opening shot, Spikes in the first panel bottom row (looks like the Red Dragon from Bone, ne?), the running. My god the running. And Noah in that last panel... the big reveal.
Which underwent THREE incarnations before deciding on what you see.
The ocean of people was also great fun to depict in a simple way. And I was surprised how little I needed to put in to give that sense of space.
On a technical basis, I enjoy how the second to last panel is of them looking 'around' the wall, which is also on the left side of the 'view' of Noah in that last shot.
Woo, what a project! Mayhaps I'll try my hand at it again someday. ^_^
