I really wanted to cover a lot of ground with this next animation... but I found that it was really three animations I was trying to jam into one, and it was just too much. So I'm breaking it up so I can tackle them without feeling overwhelmed.

So no, no Princess Samus bondage this time around folks. That'll have to wait for the next animation. Which should come sooner than this one.

First time inputting music and man, I was making myself sick with frustration. ALSO, figured out how to STOP the loop (dude, I have to learn coding to stop a freaking animation loop? Why isn't that just a basic action? Well whatever, I gotta learn to code sooner or later). Now I'm completely stumped on the music. It took me forever and scouring the internet for tutorials to figure out how to just STOP the music from playing even after the animation finished. I want it to fade but the fade out option under properties doesn't seem to do bunk. Eventually I want to put sound FX and junk in here but for now, just having music and having the music STOP is more than enough.

Things I plan to tackle:
SFX
Voiceovers
Frame by Frame cutscenes
Preloader

I swear to GOD I felt like screaming toward the end of making this animation, and eventually just had to stop toying with the music. When I figure out a preloader and music controls, I'll come back and finish this. For now, I just have to move on.

It's comin' along you guys.

SoE is mine... as much as fanart can be.

Wow, this is something strange. It's grown from "Princess Samus captured" to some kind of meta-game world-role reversal thing.

[I hit the wrong button]

Thinking about it...

Samus Aran wasn't just "a character", she was "Player Character", so if you start making her the princess to rescue, then what to keep Bowser to change role as well ?

Then... when they brought her in their world, they also brought the ambiance of Metroid.
Right now Ridley is probably trying to capture a princess.

Is there any intention of returning to a drawn style? I just found this, and the animations - while well done - make me miss the comic.

Is it wrong to say I hope I can too? =)

Anyway, I was initially just going to rip the mmphs from spanish soap operas or whatever, but live would be probably the ultimate form this could take.

So who knows! Do you have any good recording devices?

I think they're just afraid you'll like this better and won't go back! But a little experimentation is the best thing for an artist; I think it's cool you're willing to change formats completely. And it's clear you're learning lots of stuff! I guess I think that's great for -you-, so I like that reflexively XP And I think it's neat you share the struggle - this was hard because of X. I think if I ever try this sort of thing myself, I'll come back to this.

I'd be really frightened to get out of my comfort zone - let alone post the results (even if they are fascinating like this). And that's a flaw I think! So kudos. ^_^

There's something really... I don't know, INTERESTING about involving people in the process of learning something new. I'm sorry that some people are disappointed in the step BACK, but, well... it's like that whole adage about how the number one road block to success is fear of failure, or sucking, or whatever you want to call it.

I'm crazy ambitious, and the final form I want this to take I think will be awesome... but scope is sooo important to learning new things, and I overshoot all the time. Start out trying to build a masterpiece, and its easy to get overwhelmed and give up.

So thanks again for your interest and your support. And if you ever DO want to learn more about this in particular, I'd be glad to answer any questions or give any pointers I can.

Absolutely, about the road block thing. I suffer from that badly and it's absurd, and even though I know that, I worry about everything. I can't get any better anymore because I'd always defined my work only by how "accurate" it was, and not by fundamentals of expression or curiosity. I guess that's a pitfall one can run into as a hobbyist (doing things exactly the way you want to do them), but now that I'd like to make money at it, I find myself wedged into a tiny crack I dug for myself. Since I'm basically pleased with the way my work turns out, doing anything else - having to take a few rungs down - is very intimidating for me to do. Not having something turn out is so frightening it's very hard to do now. :\ Unfortunately, that's what I need to do if I'm going to draw anything new or different, or add anything to my repertoire. Fear of sucking D:

I find people brave enough to strike out on new paths very inspiring. :3

If I ever feel brave enough to look into this kind of work, I'll remember I have 'a friend on the inside' n.n In the meantime, I'll be lurking curiously!!

You remind me very much of a good friend of mine! He's a lawyer, but he does art on the side. He's very particular about his art, and never wants to make anything that fails to meet his standards.

I struggle with this as well, and two things that have helped me are:

1.) Keeping track of how much I'm actually making hourly. If I'm being paid $75 for an illustration, I better spend between 3-7 hours on the piece. The closer I get to the 10 hour mark, the closer I come to minimum wage and undermining the art industry as a whole. A number of illustrators suggest $35 per hour as pretty much the cheapest you can afford to go.

And before you balk at that price, remember: freelance illustrators aren't getting a consistent paycheck, aren't getting health insurance or benefits, and aren't being covered for holidays or sick leave. When you factor all that in, $35 per hour really is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

2.) Do sloppy drawing, gestural sketches, whatever, and time yourself. This will force you to draw a LOT and not get too precious on any one thing. For a while there I had a regimen of 3 2minute sketches of my hand, 2 3minute sketches of faces, and 1 9minute sketch of a motion sequence that comprised of 18-20 frames (I'm really not that precise with the frames, but I aim for a bunch).

Just some thoughts for ya. Hope it's useful ^^
