This time around I learned how to Pan and Zoom!

My fiancee was watching it through and thought the dialogue may have been a bit too fast... but at that point I didn't know how to easily slow it down without completely redoing the animation.

So here it is for those slower readers among us!

Turtle: Thank God! Comrade!

Turtle: Brother, I fear I may be compromising the mission.
Turtle: I was guarding the princess
Turtle: When suddenly I realized -

Turtle: Hey, Brother!
Turtle: Brother?

Turtle: WAIT!
Turtle: You'll fall in the-

Turtle: What... just happened?

BUT THAT'S AGAINST THE RULES!!!!

HE'S A RED KOOPA TROOPA! THEY TURN AROUND WHEN THEY REACH AN EDGE! It's the green koopa Troopas that marches endlessly forward even in the face of death. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!

The fundamental flaw in the text speed is that people read at different speeds. It happens. Granted, until you're experienced enough to experiment with some pause/hold functions, you do what you have to. But my reading speed is right about average at I felt it was fine. I agree with the earlier comments on your dialog's pace - it's about as good as it can be. Good job. Can't wait to see more.

I think it's just right for one reason: The turtle is going and isn't stopping. Talking turtle is too surprised at the guy not stopping and falling to his doom. The whole speed seems natural.

So... has our guard become sentient when he wasn't before or has Princess Samus' improvising had the side effect of "glitching the matrix" with horrible consequences for everyone in the castle, forcing turtle and Samus into a quest to restore "normality" (or what they perceive it is respectively)?

You can set the frames per second in the movie settings to slow it down globally(though making it choppier).

You could also add a button to continue, and pause the animation at each piece of dialog.

I've thought about that pause, unpause button and would like to get there, actually. I'm currently working through the basics of flash, how to use it like a camera with the pan and zoom, and am getting there. Eventually I'll get more into the programming side of it.

I could have changed the frame rate but it would have thrown off the overall rhythm, so I opted against that.

I'm glad to see the story pacing hasn't been thrown off any by the comic's media transition. We're getting a taste of a greater conflict just in time for the chapter to finish and leave us wondering what's next.

Regarding the text speed, I think you absolutely nailed the timing for the guards last line but based on how it's delivered, another ellipsis should probably follow the 'just' as well to account for the pause. I also think there are some problems with the delivery of the early lines. The style seems to be that every sentence has it's own word bubble but the first line is combining two of them. I'm reading it more as "Thank god, Comrade!" instead of "Thank god! *pause* Comrade!" It's also weird that the turtle refers to the other koopa by two titles. First as comrade, then brother. Either one would work and I like the use of the title as it shows a degree of respect between the koopas. However, I think the use of a title needs to be consistent, both in this episode and through out the rest of the project.

Yeah, I totally forgot about that ^_^; But the point is that the enemies WILL just walk mindlessly to their deaths. Or at least, that's what I was getting at... not some weird class thing where green troopas are suicidal but red troopas aren't.

It has nothing to do with class, it's simply a set gameplay mechanic. And if you want to parody it, at least use the right colors. You'll never see a red troopa walk to his death. Well, usually, that is. In one specific case, I think it is possible... but then our - currently nameless - Troopa (Give him a name. Call him Carl from now on!) would have a bigger problem. A plumber-related one, one would assume.

I am getting off topic here. Point is - red Troopas don't walk of ledges. :P

Just pondering this possibility, perhaps that particular koopa is actually a part of the princess's "cage." (gog alliteration) The idea being that once she frees herself from the rope, she can then drop down onto the koopa as it's falling, then jump off of it to reach the ledge. If that is the case, we'll see that particular koopa walk down the hallway again soon enough.

And it's probably one of those insane puzzles that requires pixel-perfect timing.

I like that thought--since our guard has broken the Third Law, perhaps he is gaining the ability to question the other Laws that govern his world. Here he is realizing for the first time that watching a fellow Koopa walk to his death is strange rather than being how things "should be".

Except in this case it isn't even the default state of the game world. Green shelled Koopas walk off cliffs. Red shells usually turn around. They are the ever so slightly upgraded mooks of the Mario-verse.
