Sylverine: Inquisitors

In the time after the Cataclysm, a great divide was set in
place. Magic was now reality, but not ubiquitous. Females
were seemingly predisposed to it, while only 1 in 100 men
were born with the gift. Men, it seemed, would pale in
comparison to women and society would inevitably turn
matriarchal.

Or so it seemed. While not given to magic, men had
inherited a different, horrifying, gift. In the presence of
magic, 1 in 4 men would transform into hideous distortions of
themselves, mad with bloodlust, and mere contact with the
magic user terminated her life. After the magic user was
dead, the afflicted would return to normal bloodied and
without any memory of the event.

It wasn't until the Book of Durand, and the Holy Sylverine
Church that the crippling dynamics of this situation took
pause. Magic users were trained to become Eidolons, licensed
magic users of the state. An Eidolon always travels with two
Inquisitional members of the church: The Ward and the
Acolyte.

In the event of an Arendi attack, the Ward uses his magically
infused armor to serve as the Tank, while the Acolyte's
augmented maneuverability is put to good use in helping the
Eidolon escape. These groups of three would become known
as Inquisitor Cells, and travel throughout the land bringing
salve to the terrified citizens.
